What does the Lot Code on GoBio! Products mean?
Every GoBio! product is stamped with a lot code that shows the production date using the Julian Calendar. For example, Lot Code L17201 indicates the product was produced on July 20, 2017 whereas the first two digits “17” = production year, and last 3 digits “201” = production day.
The recommended shelf life of our products varies by product category:
Organic Bouillon Cubes = 3 years
Organic Broth Powders = 3 years
Organic Gelatin = 3 years
Organic Dessert Mixes = 5 years
Organic Cornstarch = 5 years
Organic Candy = 2 years
Starting in September 2018, all GoBio! products will also contain a Best Before Date on the packaging.
What is the difference between a Lot Code, Best Before Date and Expiry Date?
A Lot Code is used to indicate the production date on GoBio! products.
A Best Before Date is also known as a durable life date and indicates the when the durable life period of prepackaged food ends. Durable life means the anticipated amount of time that a food product, when stored in appropriate conditions will retain its freshness, taste and nutritional value.
An Expiry Date is not the same as a best before date. Expiration dates are required only on certain foods that have strict compositional and nutritional specifications which might not be met after the expiration date.
What is the source of GoBio! Organic Gelatin?
GoBio! Organic Gelatin is 100% pure hydrolyzed collagen protein extracted from certified organic pork hides. Our organic gelatin is made for GoBio! in Germany. Under EU organic regulations all animals must be pastured and fed non-GMO, certified organic feed. EU, as well as Canadian, organic regulations do not allow use of any hormones, including rBGH. Antibiotics are only permitted when an animal is suffering excessively and if antibiotics are administered, the animal is isolated from the herd for a set time to ensure all traces of antibiotics are removed.
GoBio! Organic Gelatin does not contain any additives, preservatives, colouring or MSG, which is widely used in bovine gelatin to enhance flavor, etc. GoBio! Organic Gelatin is neutral in taste and naturally white in colour.
Does Yeast Extract contain MSG?
Yeast extract often, but not always, contains free glutamic acid, also known as monosodium glutamate or MSG. The yeast extract used in the production of GoBio! Organic Bouillon Cubes is a spray dried yeast extract obtained by autolysis of the yeast saccharomyces cerevisiae grown on molasses. This particular yeast extract does not contain MSG, nor was MSG added to it. Canadian Organic regulations do not allow MSG in any certified organic product.
Is the Palm Oil used in GoBio! Organic products sustainably sourced and produced?
The Palm Oil used in production of GoBio! Organic Bouillon Cubes and Broths comes from a Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) producer, who works in alignment with the RSPO – Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil. In 2008 the RSPO developed a set of environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce CSPO. Respecting those criteria, helps to reduce the negative impacts of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities. https://rspo.org

Why do the GoBio! Organic Sour Gummies occasionally have a "wet" substance at the bottom of the bag?
GoBio! Organic Sour Gummies achieve their distinct sour taste from the combination of citric acid and sugar, which covers the gummies. This mixture can occasionally leave a sugary sediment in the bottom of the bag. This is a normal occurrence and does not in any way compromise the quality of the product. It is optimal to store GoBio! Organic Candies in a dry environment and at room temperature no higher than 24° Celsius to minimize melting of the sugars.
What causes the occasional bubbles on the bottom of the GoBio! Organic Wine Gums?
Due to the method of production and composition of the GoBio! Organic Wine Gums, air can get into the mass during the casting process and appear as tiny bubbles on the bottom of the candy. This is a normal occurrence and does not in any way compromise the quality of the product.
What is the source of the Organic Glucose Syrup?
Organic Glucose Syrup is used as the primary sweetener in all GoBio! Organic Candies. Glucose syrup is a liquid sweetener made from hydrolyzing glucose molecules from the strings of glucose from various starches such as potato, wheat, rice or corn.
Organic Glucose Syrup is not High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). If corn is the starch source of glucose syrup, then both products are made from corn starch, but glucose syrup is 100 percent glucose and contains NO fructose, while high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has some of its glucose converted to fructose enzymatically. Also, by regulation organic corn is 100% NON-GMO.
And what about Glucose-Fructose Syrup in GoBio! Organic Licorice?
The Glucose-Fructose Syrup (GFS) in GoBio! Organic Licorice is made from Organic Non-GMO Wheat and the fructose content in the GFS is limited to about 5%. This is very different from High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), which is produced with a 55% fructose content.
